Projects

Child Welfare

As our National Project, the Child Welfare mission exemplifies what it means to be a Chapter of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries. Our Chapter creates on-going relationships by providing support and resources to select families meeting predetermined criteria.

uniform closet

Our members partner with the Pascagoula-Gautier and Moss Point school districts to provide much needed uniforms and school appropriate clothing to families in need. Gently used items are collected for all year, cleaned, and set-up to resemble a department store shopping experience. This project has become integral in meeting the needs of our community, providing over ~350 students with school clothes.

backpack buddies

Backpack Buddies is a program in which qualifying children receive a bag of food on Fridays that lasts throughout the weekend. JAPMP purchases and collects food items to assist in the program for Moss Point and Pascagoula-Gautier schools.  Additionally, we provide volunteers each month to "stuff the bags," as well as participate at the annual fundraising event for this great cause.

casa

Standing for Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, this project is very close to our hearts. Each year we provide children's Christmas Wish Lists, as well as gift-wrapping services for donated gifts. Additionally, we volunteer at the annual CASA Blues fundraiser, helping with the Silent Auction.

scholarship

Each year, we donate 2 scholarships per school to eight very deserving seniors during their class nights. The application process begins in January and is open to all.

adrienne's house

We assist the shelter with the needs of the children who enter the home. We also provide emotional support to the children while their mothers are in group counseling, with crafts, games, and snacks. In addition, we volunteer at the annual Rock the Cause 5K and Fun Run.

Kids count

This is our flagship program, through which eighth-grade students participate in an anti-bullying campaign led by Rachel's Challenge. The emphasis of the project is to help young people realize that the decisions they make today could impact them for the rest of their lives.

ink

INK - Inspirational Notes for Kids is one of our favorite projects in which we exchange monthly letters with young girls at a local elementary school. The relationship established provides the girl with emotional support, exercises her language and writing skills, and develops a trusting friendship between the participants. At the end of the school year, the participants meet at a special party to celebrate their new friendships!

School outreach

This project addresses the needs of the local school systems, including providing school uniforms, glasses, medicine, and school supplies for children in need.

Done-in-a-day festivals

In these efforts we work in conjunction with other civic-oriented organizations to assist in one-day service projects.  Past events have included Main Street Pascagoula's Third Friday, Free Flowin' on the River,  Salvation Army Bell Ringers, Jackson County Children's Coalition Kid's Time, American Heart Association's Heart Walk, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, various United Way projects, Ingalls's  5K on the Causeway, The Dream Program Golf Tournament, and many more.

Audubon children's garden

JAPMP is a proud sponsor of the Audubon Children's Nature Discovery Garden. Begun as a Provisional Project, this endeavor has blossomed into so much more; with our members volunteering annually for programs such as summer camps, Earth Day, and Hummingbird and Nature Festival.
